is it legal for an employer in the state of washington to fire an employee due soley to the fact that the employee is looking for work elsewhere and is persuading others to leave with him?

Sure. Most employment in Washington is "at will" and an employer can fire someone just because the employer got up on the wrong side of bed in the morning.

In fact, if you were my employee with the facts you describe, I'd fire you immediately.
