Legal Question in Family Law in Lebanon

Hi. My husband and I are both lebanese. We got married in Cyprus last year and now we want to divorce (no children). Are there any documents that we should fill? Do we have to go to Cyprus? If you can please inform me about the procedures. Thanks

Dear Madam,

As we understand from your email, you and your husband are Lebanese.

You got married last year in Cyprus.

Now you are residing in Lebanon, you have no kids, and you want to divorce amicably.

If our understanding is right, please be informed as follows:

1- You do not need to go to Cyprus.

2- You need to fill a common application to the Lebanese Court applying for the divorce.

3- Once presented, the Court may schedule a hearing to hear you both and interrogate you.

4- After that a judgment of divorce will be issued by the Civil Court.

5- This judgment will be executed in Lebanon, meaning that you will not be registered under his family registration.

6- A copy of the judgment will be also legalized by the Cyprian Embassy in Lebanon and sent to Cyprus

7- In Cyprus the administration will be notified of the divorce judgment to register it in Cyprus.

Should you need any further details, or our assistance into implementing the above procedure, please do not hesitate to send us an email at the following private email: [email protected]

Kind Regards
