Can I look to see if an estate was probated myself?

You can go to the public court records in the county where the probate was filed, if indeed an application to probate an estate was filed. If there is real property in the estate, usually there would be a probate in the county where the land is located, unless the property was held in joint tenancy with right of survivorship or some similar circumstances.
