Legal Question in Business Law in California
business
I would like to start a window washing business. I am not sure if I need insurance though. I am 15 years old and I would like to run the business by myself and also wash the windows myself too. I was also wondering if I could get a government grant to help me start up the business. I don't have a car and I need to something to get around in. Would the government help me with that? Maybe an electric bike or scooter. Thanks!

Your age may present issues. Ordinarily you want insurance and a business license. If you will be doing second story windows using a ladder there are safety issues that might be regulated by local ordinance. Start with your local government:

Then also see:

There are also income tax issues once you earn a certain amount; on that go to:

Also, read up on the solvents that window manufacturers recommend, so that you do not use something that voids the warranty on newer windows. Plus, your customers will be astounded by your professionalism and you'll get more referrals.
Good luck.
Re: business
Congratulations on wanting to start a business.
The problem with the federal government is you have to ask for at least a billion, or it's too small of an amount for them to bother with. But I could be wrong. They say President Obama actually reads some of his mail, so you could try writing to him at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC 20500. Or you could go to the public library and look up author Matthew Lesko who has written numerous books about how to get free money from various government programs. Or you could contact Junior Achievement, or the Service Corps of Retired Executives, both of these groups will be happy to give you information and possibly other help with starting a business.
Best of success to you.
