Why does some incorrect information in an old probation report matter?

Probation reports are only available to the public for sixty days after sentencing, and your CDCR file is not a public document.

If you pick up a new conviction, then your attorney could make sure the new report is correct. If you stay out of trouble, there isn't much point in trying to correct this 20 year old error.
