Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I just received a ticket for public urination at Hermosa Beach California. It was at night and in a dark corner away from any people. I have been hearing stories that I could get a sex offender because of this. Is this true? Also how much is a public urination fine in Hermosa Beach? Can I fight this? The police officer actually wrote down my Drivers license id incorrectly on the ticket too. Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance

The actual punishment for a crime is always fact dependent. Any incident that involves public exposure can have some harsh consequences, so you need to be prepared to fight this very hard.

While the fact that you were away from people when if happened weighs in your favor, I would assume you didn't know there was a police officer around (which mean there could have possibly been others around that you did not notice). I would need to see the complete police report and discuss this with you personally to give you a full assessment.

Yes, it is true. The DA could amend the charges at any time to be public 'exposure' charge, instead of public urination. That would be a registrable sex offense. If you are serious about getting legal counsel to fight to keep this from becoming a worse problem, feel free to contact me.
