Legal Question in Family Law in California

My daughter was born in 2008. Her biological father got locked up when I was pregnant for embezzlement. He didn't want anything to do with her when I found out I was pregnant. When I met him I didn't know he was on parole for a previous conviction of armed robbery. He spent 10 year in prison for that. He is a stranger to my daughter. He was just released last week from prison and has tried to make contact with me. This is someone who has spent the last half of his life behind bars. Does he have rights to my daughter? I am a stable, responsible mother. Never committed a crime. I am really concerned for my daughter who is 6 years old. This could be traumatizing for her.
