Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have sole legal custody (and sole physical) with elaborate visitation for the father. I have full decision making on legal custody incl. extracurricular activities. I want to check whether in CA this indeed includes all things relating to religion. The father states he will enroll our child in bible study/classes. Even without my consent. Is this allowed?

The court does not have the power to intervene and give directives on religious training. What the court will typically do is allow each parent to exercise their religious freedom on exposing the child to their religious beliefs. Alternatively, the court cannot insist that a parent take a child to religious training if that parent does not wish to do so.

What the court can do is structure parenting timeshare so each parent cannot utilize religious training as an excuse to interrupt the timeshare the other parent may have. Please meet with an experienced family law attorney to explore your options on how to best structure your court orders.
