Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Slander, Etc

I have been accused (wrongly I might add, very strongly) of embezzeling union funds from my union. Once the ongoing audit is done - what are my chances of taking legal action against those who knowingly broadcast throught the world wide web that I'm a crook?

There are many factors to consider in this type of case. You can sue for Libel if the defamation was done on the net, or slander if it was done verbally. The factors to consider are; Are you a public figure? Was the statement an opinion or a statement of fact? Were the statements true? What damages have you suffered as a result?
