Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Re:Film company to sponsor me

I asked the question about the filmcompany whom I work for as a film production assistant in talent management. I do not get paid since its an internship but would very much like to continue my work for them. Do I qualify? And, I didnt really understand why my employer has to file it within this week?

Re: Re:Film company to sponsor me

I believe you said you had an F1 visa (student visa). It sounds like you may be talking about an H1B visa. I would need more information to determine what visa you would be the best for you and what you could qualify for.

The reason your employer would have to file this week for an H1B is that the filing window is short. It starts 4/1 (tomorrow) and the guess is that the 65,000 H1B visas that are available this year will go quickly (they have gone in the first day or two the past several years). The USCIS recently announced that they will basically wait 5 days after 4/1/08 to allow people more time to get their applications in.

If this is something you want to do and you qualify I would recommend getting started immediately.
