Legal Question in Employment Law in California

How do you file a claim or report against an overseas employer (in the UK) who owes you money?

Work was done in the US (Employee has proof of work done).

Employer does not have a branch in the US, but a couple of bank accounts belonging to their clients are in US.

Third party individuals were instructed to pay the employee (in other words, no wires or company checks were issued -Western Union Money Orders were issued).

Employee did pay US taxes on compensation received.

You can file in US [anybody can sue anybody for anything - winning is a different story] , but you'll have trouble getting effective service on defendants, and the company can seek to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction and standing. They can defend on the facts as well. You can file in the other country, by hiring an attorney there and doing what is necessary, if it is worth enough money to justify the legal fees. If you file and serve them, whether her or there, they may settle with you rather than spend money defending. Good luck.
