Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My husband was fired today for political reasons which were in no way his fault. My question is that the office manager who was behind majority of issues refused to enroll us in health insurance coverage until today, the last day of employment. He was eligible for benefits as of mid June. Was this illegal? Can't find anything online at all.

If your husband's compensation package was to include medical insurance, from June, then you are entitled to compensation for the period during which he was not covered. That compensation may include the cost of insurance for which you laid out money, the cost of medical bills, since June, and the cost of finding new medical insurance, if your husband's late enrollment precludes his continuing the policy, under COBRA.

You can use an attorney, but, if the amount in question is relatively low, you might start with the California Dept. of Industrial Relations. This agency can help you make a claim for the benefit that your husband was denied. The agency's website is : dir.ca.gov
