Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I live in CA and work for a company in HI. For 11 years I have paid CA state disability insurance. When I asked my HR Dept about taking a leave, they said I wouldnt qualify for short term disablitity leave. Should I be able to recover the 11 years of premiumns paid from my company?

It depends on the facts, but your employer may be unlawfully permitting you to take a leave to which you are entitled under either state or federal law, or both.
