Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Maternity Leave

I have been told by the Human Resource office at my company that as an adoptive parent I will only be eligible for the Family Medical Leave Act, not paid maternity leave. Is this true that since I am adopting, I am not eligible for any paid leave from work other than vacation time? From my conversations with HR I understand that I would only receive paid leave if I were physically disabled in some way due to an actual pregnancy. Can you give me more information, please?

Re: Maternity Leave

no employer is ever required to give paid leave of any kind but you may be entitled to disability benifits from the state.
