terminated from job

unemployment denied benefits, i was fired because of my third tardy in almost 3 years of employment, I had compelling reason.

Can they really deny my benefits ?

You should not be denied benefits for the reason you stated. Appeal the decision so you can tell your story to an administraive law judge. You have 20 days from the notice of the denial to file your appeal.
