The administrative claim for money damages should be presented to the Postmaster at the post office where the injury occurred. You may (but do not have to) use a Standard Form 95 claim form that is available at the website for the US Dept of Justice. Here is the link to the form:

http://www.usdoj.gov/civil/forms/sf95.pdf

The admin claim must be presented to the Postal Service within two years of the date of the injury, or it will be barred by the applicable statute of limitations. (The federal law that permits such claims against the Government is called the Federal Tort Claims Act.)

If the injuries are serious, after you obtain appropriate medical care, you should probably seek an atty experienced in such claims to assist in preparing the claim. The form looks simple and straightforward, but there are a couple of hidden traps for the unwary. (See the papers on the FTCA posted on our website: www.quintonpetix.com )
