Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

No display of front license plate violation

I received a citation for violation of VC 5200 while parked on the street in Los Angeles. Specifically, it says in the comments: ''No front plate affixed to vehicle'' Altho the front plate was not attached to the front bumper of my car, it was in clear display on top of the dashboard inside my car. Am I still in violation of the code?

Re: No display of front license plate violation

Have you read Vehicle code section 5200. If not read it and the following sections that apply. I have attached a copy of a portion of that sec. (VEH 5200. (a) When two license plates are issued by the department for use upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear.) A quick reading of the code indicates that you did violate this section. The plate was not securely fastened to the vehicle and was placed at the middle of the vehicle not the front.

Often these tickets are considered fix it tickets and will be dismissed if proof of a repair is presented to the court.
