Generally, there is no probate for estates valued under 100k in California. What type of asset are we talking about?

Yes, and no. The purpose of probate is to provide for a court supervised transfer of assets belonging to the decedent.

There is a simplified (and faster) probate procedure for small estates, but if the estate is as small as you mention, you might want to sit down with an attorney, review what TYPE of property it is, and plan the best course of action.
