Speeding up a divorce
I am engaged to a man who shares custody of his son with his ex -- they are separated not divorced. We have moved in together and the son spends one week with us, one week with her. We both live in the same neighborhood. It is a good arrangement and the son is adjusting really well. The problem is that I want to start planning the wedding but can't until the divorce is finalized. My fiance Scott has asked her for a divorce, has spent thousands of dollars already on legal fees and is tired of it. The only thing left to finalize is the living distance. She keeps saying that it's too hard for her to decide. Scott has presented a radius but she has said it's too restrictive. Basically, she wants to move wherever. What can I do legally to get her to make a decision? I've been nice, patient and called the schoolboards for her to find out information. They say, it doesn't matter where she moves to as long as our address is on the form. So, she can really move wherever. She is just stalling. Is there anything we can do to annull or simply dissolve this marriage? They've been separated for 10 years. Thanks, Jennifer
