Legal Question in Social Security Law in Colorado

Inheritance effect on Disability Eligibility?

A 40 year old person is receiving Social Security and VA disability payments because of depression and multiple other health issues and will likely never be able to work. Would the disability payments be reduced or eliminated if that person were to inherit $100,000 or more from a grandparent?

Thank you.

Re: Inheritance effect on Disability Eligibility?

The inheritance you describe would not affect the individual's Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, but would probably result in a loss or reduction of the VA Disability benefits.
