Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

How Is This Fair? What Do I Do? Affordable Legal Support.

I am at a complete loss. I am a struggling divorced mother of two boys (6 & 3). I make 45k a year and between rent, daycare, past debts from my marriage, and lack of child support from my ex who is living in a shelter and in AA and NA programs, I am unable to afford proper legal counsel because I make too much. Even though I'm barely managing to take care of my kids without the help of friends who are generous to help support me while I try to wrestle 16 weeks of child support (legally owed according to my divorce) from a father who can barely take care of himself. I enlisted the help of a state child support service and after many months have finally even contacted me. However, my husband, who is homeless, jobless, and battling substance abuse has easy access to law services and is fighting paying child support and wanting access to his children (which I refused after he was drunk when they were in his care and his last DUI). My parents helped with my divorce 2 years ago and Im still repaying them. That same lawyer wanted 5k retainer just to help with child support collection. I barely have a few hundred dollars at the end of each month. How can I get affordable legal support and help?

The support services office is designed for you. Find out who your worker is. They are assigned alphabetically by the claimant's last name. After you find out who is representing you, go there in person and do not leave until they have opened a file for you. They are busy for the very reason that you are experiencing.
