Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
back pay
I worked for my husband and his partner's company as a bookkeeper from 1987 til 2002 when they hired a bookkeeper because I couldn't handle doing that company and my husband's other company at the same time. I never received any payment for working for their company, but my husband received a salary of 700 a week and his partner 1000 a week.
Can I get back pay for those years now that we have since been divorced and I never received anything for those years?

Re: back pay
It is unlikely. However, there may be avenues to consider. There is a theory called "quantum meruit" which essentially says that you should get paid for the fair value of the work you did. However, since you were not expecting to be paid at the time you were performing the work, it is going to be difficult to use that theory to get back pay now.
