Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Breaking my lease

I broke my lease last year in October. My lease was from 2/26/05 to 3/30/06. The apartment complex now has put me in collections for $9,000.00. When I gave my notice it was only 15 days, the complex had my apartment re-leased with someone else on 10/1/05. When I turned in my notice they told me I would only be responsible for 1 month rent $1,059.00 plus $700.00 for the 7 months I lived there at the 100.00 a month discounted rate. this would only total $1,759.00. Is this legal what they are trying to do to me?

Re: Breaking my lease

They can try but they cannot collect twice. They are obliged to mitgate damages by trying to re rent. Good luck.
