Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

security deposit & illegal searches

At my last apartment we paid a security deposit of $875. We left 4/30/09 and spoke to the manager. She verbally told us we would get back the whole deposit. But now it's a month later and she won't return our phone calls.

At our new place, it is a ''low income'' housing place and they came in the other day, looked in all our closets and everything and left. Called it an ''inspection.'' Can they do this whenever they want? Do they have to give us some sort of notice? Do we have a legal right to leave if we do not agree with this? It made me feel violated.

Thank you.

Re: security deposit & illegal searches

Read your lease. The landlord's inspection rights are in the document. You can bring a small claims action for your security deposit.
