Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

I worked for the state of GA. On 8/3/12 I took a drug test. On 8/6/12 I turned in my resignation letter dated for that same day. HR mailed me a termination letter dated 8/9/12 due to failing a drug test. Can I be terminated AFTER I gave my immediate notice?

If you were still working there at that time, yes, you can be fired.
