Legal Question in Family Law in Guam

Attorney avoids paying support

My ex-husband is an attorney that has managed to avoid paying his final year of child support by sending post dated checks that have bounced. He has moved from Guam to his home state of Illinois. I don't know if he is currently employed. How do I enforce these final payments that are 13 months in arrears? (I live in Colorado.)

Re: Attorney avoids paying support

It's frustrating enough not receiving child support, let alone if you are unable to track your ex-husband down. Sometimes finding the person is half the battle. As far as tracking someone down, you can employ a private investigator to see if they can uncover information about him. You might also be able to get assistance from the Colorado Child Support Enforcement Unit, and their phone number is (720) 944-2960, and they can be found on the Internet at http://www.childsupport.state.co.us/home/indexIndex.jsp

The Child Support Enforcement Unit has resources available to them that you may not have on your own. Additionally, they can coordinate with other states as far as getting past due amounts. If he is an attorney, it's also possible that his law license could be suspended until he pays the amount he owes.

Best of luck to you!
