Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Sued for cashing a payroll check that was returned NSF

Two and a half years ago, I cashed a payroll check that subsequently bounced. Currency exchange contacted me and I referred to the employer. Have not been contacted since. Have not worked for that employer since 7/2005. Was served papers yesterday being sued for amount of check and court costs. Not sure how to respond. Law firm suing me NEVER contacted me in writing or by phone. court appearance sched. for 1/17/2008.

Since you received the money, you have liability. You need to get permission from the court to bring the employer into the case. Hopefully they will still in business, if not you have a problem.
