Legal Question in Medical Leave in Illinois

Can I be fired?

I am 5 months pregnant and have been hospitalized a couple of times for sickness related to pregnancy. My boss is cutting my hours and telling me he cannot give somebody who is sick more hours when I was employed as a full time employee. He has also told me if I don't like it to turn in my resignation and now I think he is making my life a work miserable so I would leave. I would like to know if he has a right to fire me for being sick related to my pregnancy?

Re: Can I be fired?

If you employer is covered under the federal Pregnancy Discrimination Act, your employer can't discriminate against you because of your pregnancy. You would have a claim if he terminated you and your termination was directly related to your pregnancy. Hopefully, this information is helpful.
