Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Age Discrimination

I am a 60 year old white male who was discharged from his sales position on Nov 7 of this year. I believe this was a case of age discrimination because three weeks prior to my release, the company hired 3 new people who were at least 20 to 25 years younger than me. The office of unemployment upon investigating the company's claim to have my unemployment benefits stopped, found no reason to do this and approved my benefits for lack of ''due process''. I was one of the top sales persons in my department and am devestated by this discharge. The office of human rights told me to come in to file a claim but wants me to write a letter to explain why I feel I have been discriminated against, and I don't feel very confident about writing it where it may make some difference in getting my job back. Can you help me? Thank you

Re: Age Discrimination

I agree with your initial determination not to draft a letter explaining your position without consulting a lawyer, as your letter will become evidence in any proceeding you might initiate. Curious: Why did your former employer seek to have your unemployment insurance benefits stopped? What is the pretextual reason for your discharge?
