Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Is it legal in the state of Illinois to force exempt employees to work 9 hours a day? This extra hour adjustment started last year, yet our company handbook stills says that 40 hours a week is standard and I was not asked to sign any sort of addendum to my original offer letter.

Assuming you are not a professional, they should be compensating you for the extra time. Otherwise, they are in violation of federal law (FLSA) and analogous state law.

If they are compensating you, and you just think that they violated he original offer letter, you may not have much of a case. Illinois is an at will state and they can probably modify the terms of your employment by an extra hour.
