Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

I was involved in a traffic accident in Chicago, IL where my stuff was stolen at the scene and filed suit against the tow truck I never hired and the passengers of the vehicle I was involved in the accident with.

I have witnesses that saw everything, but the tow company says they aren't liable since they hire independent contractors, but their property (namely the tow truck was there the entire time)

How do I win the case?

Perhaps adding a negligent hiring and/or negilgent retention of an independent contractor count in your complaint would work.
