Taxi driver lease
Is a taxi company liable to insure a driver/ independently in his cab or must he carry some insurance for either or both or must the driver and how? what is the procedure?
Can the driver drive a leased cab without some sort of insurance coverage by the owner?

The shot answer is "No." The city of Chicago requires that all cabs be insured for a minimum amount. The driver who leases the cab usually pays the owner a a fee in order to be covered by the insurance policy. I have had many cabbies as customers and/or have had claims against cab companies and in all my years of litigation, I have never come across a cab company and/or driver who was not insured.
