After a husband dies, is the wife responsible for her husband's past debts including medical bills? Or are we still considered chattel?

In Kansas a surviving spouse is liable for the medical bills of his/her deceased spouse. A surviving spouse, however, is not liable for other debts that are in the deceased spouse's name alone, such as VISA, MASTERCARD, etc.

There are many issues that need to be addressed when a person dies so I would encourage you to contact me or another attorney to discuss the same.
