Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

paternity

Under duress I allowed my son's father to waive his parental rights and avoid child support. My son was conceived in texas, born in kansas, has never set foot in the state of texas, yet the attorney I hired while still in texas drafted this document and it went through the texas court. I have been told the agreement is not legal in kansas or in many other states for that matter, as a man cannot bargain away his responsibility to his child. Before I considered trying to overturn this, SRS and private attorneys both advised me it was ''doable.'' Now, my SRS caseworker is refusing to touch it.

Is there a similar case I can cite? I have been living in poverty since the birth of my child while his father lives in a $350K house. This can't be right. How can I get someone to fight this for me?

Re: paternity

an attorney would need more information than you provided. . .is the father named on the birth certificate? Is he denying paternity? If so, you probably need to ask for a paternity test. ..SRS trustee in your jurisdiction can assist you.
