For criminal charges, she is an adult. For civil purposes, she is a minor and under parental authority until she is 18.

Actually, that is not totally correct. While Ms. Lucas is correct that she is still a minor for civil purporses, the age of consent for sexual relations in Louisiana is 17, not 18. You can't be prosecuted for having a 17 year old girlfriend. So, she can't leave home to live on her own until she is 18 (or emancipated), but you can date.
