Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

Death of spouse when separated

I live in Maryland. I have been separated for 14 yrs. but not legally. He died with a lot of debt that he accumulated while we were not together, that I did not sign on. Will I be responsible since we were never legally separated or divorced?

Re: Death of spouse when separated

No - except for necessities (emergency medical care, generally), one spouse is not legally liable for the other's debts, separated or not.
