Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

MD adverse possession law

I bought a house in Aug 05. I was told that we owned to a specific location on the property. This included most the back yard, Driveway, patio, and walled flowbed. Come to find out, that this property was lost back in 1920 when the land was subdivided and sold for homes. Well to make a long story short. The previous owner built the home in 1920 and willed the home down through the family. The son of the man who built it had used the back lot as his own since at least the 60's. (the old man is dead and neighbors who were original) SO question can I claim this lot through adverse possession since this has been used as a part of this property since at LEAST the 60's even though I have only owned since 8-05. Piont being through research (county and myself) we can find no owners or listing of an owners dating back. Thanks for pointing me in right direction

Re: MD adverse possession law

You should be able to claim it if the use was open and notorious, and it was used as part of the property conveyed to you. It may be that your seller is the owner, and would have to convey his rights to you (if your deed did not already do that).
