Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

perfume spray caused bronchitis

A room I work in is repeatedly sprayed with perfume a few times every night. I know who is doing it because there is only on other person who is working at the time. They are aware that I am allergic to it and spray every time i leave the room. I have to spend a great amount of time in that room to listen out for the kids sleeping. I work as an overnight counselor in a group home for teens. I have been to the doctor once. I can tolerate perfume somewhat but when i continue to smell it all night long it makes me ill. I am wondering what steps to take. I have asked them to stop but they claim they are not doing it.

I have two questions: who is doing it and why? For example, if they are doing it to harass you, then I would want to know why they are harassing you.

You should take the issue up with HR and management, and you should document your conversations with them. If you are allergic to perfume, and it's affecting your breathing, the employer may be obligated to take certain steps to prevent this from happening again.
