Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

My seven year old daughter's father passed away in may. He had been living with his mother in south Carolina for the last 6 months. I live in Michigan with our daughter. His mother is refusing to respond to us with matters regarding his death certificate for use with friend of the court. She is also refusing to let us have his social security numbers for other legal masters regarding our daughter. I was also wondering if my daughter had legal right to some of his things, like the toys he bit her and kept at his house and some of his clothing, things like that. I am trying to find out how I can do all of this when his mother is in physical possession of every thing at the moment.

You will need to hire a probate attorney, likely in South Carolina, because that's where he was living. Your daughter certainly has rights to information and assets unless he had a will disinheriting her.
