I'm sure that the clerk of court can tell you when the magistrate is required to put in an initial appearance. Here in Iowa it is usually within 48 hours. The fact that bail has been set could indicate that a magistrate has been involved in the process. You did not state what sort of offense has been charged and what amount of bail is asked so there is no way for me to evaluate whether it is too high.

If you read the first reply, you should note that it was from an attorney in Iowa. We have not had "magistrates" here in Missouri for many years.
