Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

child support

I am an out of work construction worker living on unemployment benefits at the present time. My ex is taking me to court for child support. the divorce decree stated no child support to be paid because we were to have joint physical custody. Now she wants full custody and child support. will the support be based on my unemployment benefits or what I made when working? I have made voluntary support payments for the last 6 years. we have had had physical custody about the same amount of time during that 6 years but now my son wants to live full time with his mother. Also could hiring an attorney change the outcome of this issue? the county is Jefferson, not the county where I live

Re: child support

There is no doubt that you should hire an attorney. You need to understand all of the legal implications of the way child support is calculated, including the concept of "imputed income". An attorney will save you many, many thousands of dollars over and above whatever attorney's fees you pay. Do not make the mistake of trying to do this without an attorney. You may call me for a free telephone consultation.
