What do I need to have in writing to grant guardianship of my minor child to a designated person(s)

in the event of my inability to care for the child due to illness or death?

you can make such a designation in yoru will or as aseperate document. But, in Missouri the Probate court has greater authority than one parent to decide the future care of a minor. Absent anythin, custody woudl revert to teh ramining living parent upon the death of one. If no living parnet, than a parent's designation will be taken as a suggestion by the court deciding a minor's placement.
