Divorce with guardianship of a minor

my husband and i want to file a joint petition for divorce but none of the research i have done say anything about handling the co-guardianship of our minor grandson. We would like to file the papers ourself since finances are a problem.

Thank you for your inquiry to my office.

You are able to handle a Joint Petition for divorce independently of your co-guardianship of your grandson. Unless you have formally adopted the child your guardianship does not factor into the marital community.
