Urinating in Public

I was issued a summons to appear in court for urinating off a pier in Jersey City, NJ. I have a clean record and would like to keep it that way. Is this considered a criminal offense and what sort of fine or punishment am I facing? Is there anything I can do prior to my "court date" to have this matter resolved? Would it be in my interest to retain an attorney? I really don't want this embarrassment on my "permanent record".

The ticket reads that I "did unlawfully violate the provisions of NJSA 13:IL-23 NJAC 7:2-2.19b

It is not clear whether you go cited for

a municipal ordinance or other statutue.

The likely outcome is that you will be asked

to plea to a municipal ordinance and pay a fine.

Although the offense is recorded, it is not a

"criminal" offense and thus is not on your record.

It is doubtful that you can get the ticket

dismissed in its entirety. If the officer does

not appear on multiple occasions, the judge may

throw it out.
