Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

I have a question about a potental wrongful termination by a school district. My wife was granted tenure by the Hopatcong, NJ school district, and worked in the district for over eight years. She was dismissed this year and told that the original granting of tenure was incorrect. Therefore, they denied her seniority and she lost her job due to budget cuts by the district. Since she had already been granted tenure, this seems wrong. We would like to speak to an attorney about it.

Based on what you have written, it sounds like your wife might have an actionable claim. She should consult with an attorney as soon as possible as some potential claims may have time limits. There are many attorneys familiar with teacher tenure issues as well as wrongful termination claims (I am one of them). You can get a list of experienced attorneys by going to the website of the New Jersey chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association at http://www.nelanj.org/. You can also get a referral by going to the NJ State Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service at http://www.njsba.com/lawyer_referral/. Good luck and feel free to call me if you would like to schedule an initial consultation.
