Mothers bills after death

My mother passed away 2 months ago without a will. What little money she had we used for her funeral. Other then that she had nothing of any value. I just received several bills from the the hospital and ambulance service. We live in a different state. Can I be held responsible for her debts to hospital and ambulance service?

Re: Mothers bills after death

You are not personally liable for your mother's debts. Creditors must file a claim with the estate for the amount they are owed; when the estate money is exhausted, the creditors are out of luck.
