i am receiving a lawsuit for a debt over 10 years old.

The Statute of Limitation on debt collection lawsuit is typically 6 years. The 6 years is counted from your last payment.

You will need to file an answer to the lawsuit listing the statute of limitation as one of your defenses.

If this is a consmer debt, and the debt is over the statute of limitations, you have cause of action against them under the "Fair Debt Collections Practices Act".
