Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

My son's petition was cancelled by my wife because of an argument. However, she rienstated it and the petition is now sent back to USCIS. The case staus on USCIS (post decision) says that they received the filing on July 29th 2011 and will notify us if they need additional documents. It has been almost 8 months. We initially filed the I-130 in Mar 2011. What are the next steps?

Sometimes a file gets lost or misplaced with the government. Sometimes the file simply gets put into a continuation unit only to stay there until a Formal Inquiry is done. After the Formal Inquiry, we should be able to tell you where the case is and what is its status. Normally, it takes about 90 days for the Formal Inquiry to get the information needed.
