Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
I have found out that I have rented an illegal apartment. The " landlord" only has permits for "storage" but he turned it into an apartment. I have put alot of personal work into the apartment. New rugs, kitchen tile etc. I have paid my rent faithfully. In the begining I was told that all utilities were included but once I moved in he told me that I had to pay for my own heating oil. I have now found out that the heating oil that I pay for is also heating his garage. Can I sue for all my expenses of now having to move again? Can I get all my rent back? My heating oil costs?
