Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

Old traffic tickets

Case #s 97CR009219 and 97CR009220. Durham County NC. Both case numbers are for the same incident. I was driving with a dead inspection and dead tag and/or no insurance (can't remember exactly). Before my court date, I ended up moving to Lumberton NC (Robeson county). I was afraid to go to court without money in hand because I did that before on a traffic ticket in a county 4 hours away from home and they threw me in the pokey until I could get someone to bring the fine money.

I lost my license because of not going to court. In 2000 and in 2002 I got tickets in Bladen and Robeson counties for driving w/o license. Those two incidents have been resolved. A lawyer wants $700 to go to court for me on this but with a stay at home wife and 3 homeschooled kids I can't come up with that kind of dough. Can I get a court appointed attorney w/o going to court? (I make $27,300 per year). Can I go to court my self and ask for a PJC (never had one). I'd like to get this resolved with the lowest upfront cost and get my license back ASAP.

Thanks

Re: Old traffic tickets

Traffic matters do not receive court appointed lawyers. I highly doubt a PJC will be given either, due to the late date of the tickets. You will have to get the FTA's struck. You may could do this yourself but it could be risky. Offer teh lawyer 4 or 500 to represent you. I would advise getting an attorney to handle this.

Good luck
